Day 30 The Long Flight Home

Image
Last night we checked on the car service that we ordered to make sure it was ready for today and found out that they hadn't ordered one. The lady that was working the desk said she would try to order one but didn't know if one would be available. In the morning today we went down to the desk to see if there is one available and the same guy who was supposed to have ordered one the day before was there. 'Did you order one?' he asked, and I told him that he was the one who helped us and he was the one who is supposed to order one. We told him the lady last night was going to try to get us one. He couldn't figure out if there was one or not so he said he would call us a taxi if needed. So we went on to breakfast. Afterwards we went up to our room and fiddled around for a bit and went down half an hour before we wanted a ride in case checking out was a problem or a line. No line, and car service was there.  We are glad we left a bit early there was a lot of traffic. Our...

Day 29 Train to Meteora, Monasteries

Image
This is our last day. Today we take a 4 hour train trip to Meteora. Meet a van and go visit several monasteries. Google says it is an 11 minute walk to the station. The neighborhood is full of graffiti and our driver yesterday pointed out people doing drugs, so we thought we'd take a taxi to the train. This morning we went to the bakery next door to get breakfast for later. When we asked for a taxi to the train station, he told us to walk, insisted it is safe, and we can't get lost. On the way we met a couple from Singapore to walk and talk with. They said they tried to get a cab and were refused because it was too close. We got a chocolate with them at the station. We all walked to the platform together. They couldn't get first class seats because they were sold out. On the train we are in a cabin with 6 people. The other 4 are from Lincoln, Nebraska. The train from Athens to Kalabaka was uneventful, but kinda long at 4 hours. We meet our tour group and boarded our minib...

Day 28 Athens, disembarking Enchanted Princess

Image
We have come to the end of our cruise. Most things packed up yesterday. We got a notice they want us off the ship by 8:30 but we told the driver to meet us at the port at 9:30. So I guess we will wait. We are ready to go, we both have colds caught from so many close friends. Today we have a private tour of Athens. We had booked one from the ship, then booked a train for tomorrow. 3 days later, Princess called to say if we are disembarking that day, we can't take their tour. The only way we found to see Athens and get to the hotel with all our crap, was a private tour. Sunrise in Athens Our driver John met us with a sign. He said he was there since 8a. We didn't know, so we were watching a movie called Greenland about a comet hitting earth, we had booked him for 9:30a. We started out trying to go to the Acropolis and a vehicle hit our car. Just a minor collision and lots of yelling. So our driver decided not to go see the Acropolis first, but we went to g...

Day 27 Mykonos Greece

Image
This is our last day on the boat, so we have to settle our accounts, get our pictures, pack and go on our tour. It will be a busy day. In the morning I packed some of our stuff that we aren't going to be needing anymore like our dress up clothes and such. I went to a comedy cooking demonstration with the head chef and matre di and then a tour of the galley. Apparently there's 138 different ways they can cook potatoes. They put them all on display. They are cooking for 3800 guests and 1200 staff. Then I went to clear our bill. Which wasn't bad. Our tour in Mykonos doesn't start until noon and we get back at 7p. Tour Description: Make the most of your day in Mykonos with this full-day Discovery Exclusive tour of this timeless island and all its treasures. Begin with a motorcoach ride along the southwest coast to the Agios Ioannis beach, home to soft san...
