Day 7 Cordoba

Lovely breakfast, of course. We met for an orientation in the lobby at 9, got information about tomorrow and met our tour guide, who took us on a little walk around the neighborhood where are hotel is located. We went to a synagogue that was converted to a chapel. This was the entry floor.

We passed some silver and other shops.

Nancy Ohlson, Paul's sister, makes gourd creations and these looked pretty. Then our guide took us to the Mosque Cathedral which was lovely but tragic. The mosque was here and then the Christians came in and destroyed part of it and built a cathedral over it. It would have been nicer if they had left it and built next door.

The city originally had the Jews and Muslims living next to each other with no problem. Then in came the Christians and kicked out the Jews, and then the Muslims. Now the whole area is Catholic. The building was really amazing with all of the different kinds of art.

Lovely stained glass. The arches that are red and white are what I've seen in books, Now I can see in person. The opulence of the walls and ceilings is amazing.

Next we wanted over to see the Patios. They have a competition for people to decorate their patios. They are lovely.
The pathways are made from River Rock.

We had lunch in a street cafe. I had paella verdura and Paul had grilled chicken and potatoes. Mine tasted better this time and Paul helped me eat it.

Then we followed some ladies in flamenco dresses to find our way to the fair.  We crossed the Roman bridge.

Saw people being silly...

So many lovely dresses!

It was maybe a mile walk to get to the fair and then it was bigger than we thought it would be. They had some children's rides and a lot of big tents. I'm guessing all the ladies in their dresses were having dancing competitions but we don't know. Tonight is an equestrian show and then we'll go walk by the river and see the Roman bridge at night.

    Our hotel

It started raining about 6:45 and we have to leave about 7:15 to go to the equestrian show. There is thunder, lightning and heavy rain. The rain lightened up and we walked over to the show. We went in to a display of carriages and chariots. Just as we were entering 2 horses came thru.
Others from our group are sitting behind us.

They wouldn't let us take any pictures during the show. We ended up going out for pizza after the show.
